Windows Media Video files – Viewing Your WMV Files
The world of technology has brought about many developments to the individual and has opened up immense personal access to information on various platforms. With the entry of the PC (that most of us have already forgotten stands for Personal Computer) Microsoft continues to generate new ideas to make your computer a one stop shop for all home applications. One such software format that is purely Windows-based is the Windows Media Video. The files generated in this format are easy to recognize on your computer as they carry the tag of WMV files.
This video file format is exclusive to Microsoft and the files are not compatible with the Mac. However, on the Windows platform the files are accessible through several video players the first being the Windows Media Player and then others such as the Media Player Classic and the VLC Media Player. For optimum performance of viewing video files off the net, there are several ways of going at it. One of the most common ways is to download a file and then replay it off your Windows Media Player or any other media player that you have on your computer. If you choose to find and play your media files in this way, you must ensure that the file you are downloading has the WMV tag otherwise it may not be recognizable by the player.
You can also view the files directly off the net though this can be slow. In its development the internet isn’t great for viewing media files, or playing media files in real time except with slight changes and modifications to certain settings. However, the usual and most common or default settings are not friendly to viewing media files directly. The file will keep breaking and giving the ‘buffering’ signal. This is especially visible when you are not on a very fast internet connection. The slower your connection the more obvious the buffering process will be.
If you still wish to view the files directly from the net, you can reduce the size of the file and this will make the buffering slightly faster. This is lowering the bit rate, which in most cases will also affect the quality of the video file. There are various technologies available on the net that you can use to make your media file available to viewers and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. The exact use that you have in mind in availing your media files will determine your overall decision.
