The New Games for Kinect
Microsoft entered uncharted waters when the company initially previewed its version of a motion-sensing apparatus for the Xbox 360. Now that the new peripheral motion detecting camera (dubbed xbox kinect) will be launching shortly, anticipation about the new games for Kinect is mounting. In spite of the Wii’s head start by several years in this field, Microsoft’s version was anticipated to be genuine competition in terms of motion-sensing live action games. In fact, the XBox Kinect offers several clear advantages.
While the Xbox 360 has a large variety of exciting games, most of them are geared toward fans of role playing games, twitch-style gamers, and the more traditional-style video game enthusiasts. Kinect games will likely draw in a whole new group video gamers into the world of Xbox. In this way, Microsoft is far from being shy about imitating the Wii. Moreover, the company is avoiding the condition of needing extra add-ons similar to the Wii fit game by initially providing a more inclusive product. A review of some of the games offered for Kinect reveal that they are definitely building off of the continued success of the Wii.
The well-received Wii Fit also has a Kinect version in the form of the game known as Fitness Evolved. As opposed to the Wii, Fitness Evolved requires no extra peripherals to use and thoroughly enjoy the game. In addition, other companies are producing Kinect-like versions of Wii game favorites such as the Biggest Loser and Zumba Fitness. Even Nintendo DS games such as Nintendogs has its Kinect equivalent known as Kinectimals which lets the player look after a virtual pet.
Even though Nintendo has the distinction of having been the innovator in terms of bringing motion-sensing gaming to the forefront, Microsoft Kinect appears to be ready to grab its share of the video game market. While being first on the scene may initially have provided some advantages, the Wii gaming library is also comprised of some less than popular games that have fallen out of favor. The popularity of Kinect will most likely depend on the quality level of the games offered by Microsoft.
