In the last several years, the surveillance industry has grown by leaps and bounds. With the advent of more affordable components and a computer or computer network in most homes, it was probably inevitable. People are deciding to take care of their personal property by having electronic devices watch over it. It’s all very 21st century.

Some of these electronic devices are large and obvious, but others are small and easy to conceal. And it’s these latter electronic cameras that are making inroads in the surveillance market. It’s become very popular to hide surveillance cameras in and around your home. These small to tiny covert cameras make it possible to almost hide a surveillance camera in plain sight.

So when you’re deciding on what type of wireless covert camera to purchase for yourself, the first thing to consider is how you want or need to conceal it. Do you want something that must be completely disguised or something that’s merely inconspicuous and blends into the scenery or room? You’d be surprised at just how many types of covert cameras can be fitted inside an ordinary household item to almost become invisible. There are cameras made to look like clock radios, pens, and cola cans. Complete concealment is not a problem – but these cameras are more expensive.

The second thing to think about before buying your very own spy camera is the light. In other words, what kind of light will your camera be performing it? Will it be outdoor lighting which will change throughout the day and year or is it indoor lighting that will be more or less constant? If the light will be poor at times then a camera with a Lux level that’s low will perform best. And black and white cameras will perform better than color cameras in low light situations.

A third important consideration is how the security camera will be powered. If it’s going to need to run on batteries then it will need plenty of changing – so you’re going to need a good supply of batteries. If it can run from a general power outlet, then your power concerns are not an issue but your placement options become more limited. As with most options, you have to choose your poison.

All of these questions are important to consider before you buy a covert camera. Prices are dropping every month and features are increasing so there are lots of cameras and options to choose from.  With a little research you should be able to find a surveillance option that’s right for you.
